KAREN L. MATEO PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNICATIONS, INFINITY BROADCASTING
Karen L. Mateo has
been named Vice President of Communications for Infinity Broadcasting,
it was announced today by Joel Hollander, Chairman and CEO, Infinity
Broadcasting and Dana McClintock, Senior Vice President, CBS Communications
Group.
In
her position, Mateo is responsible for internal and external communications for
Infinity, including serving as spokesperson for the division.
She also assists Infinity's 183 local
stations with the development and implementation of their media strategy.
"With 183 local
major-market radio stations, and a new national ad campaign, it is imperative
that we effectively spread our message and continually enhance our brands,"
said Hollander. "Communications is an extremely important part of our
operations at Infinity, and I am pleased to have someone of Karen's talent and
creativity in this role. This is a well deserved promotion."
"Karen's many years of
experience at the network and local television level has helped tremendously in establishing an in-house communications
function at Infinity," said McClintock. "Karen has had great success helping to
craft a more cohesive message for the company and its many stations, and she
has developed key relationships with the media, which has been a great benefit.
She is a real pro, and I look forward to continuing our work as we spread the
word about Infinity and its success at the local and national level."
Mateo
has served as Director of Communications for Infinity since September
2003.
She joined Viacom Inc.'s radio
division from CBS 2 New York where for two years she was Director of
Communications (2001-03).
Mateo's
responsibilities included overseeing the station's media relations efforts and
on-air talent relations, including the creation of promotional and public
appearances.
Prior
to her tenure at WCBS-TV, Mateo was a senior press representative for CBS
Sports, a division of the CBS Television Network.
She was the lead publicist for the Network's
coverage of college basketball, including the NCAA Men's Basketball
Championship, and college football.
She
was also a contributing publicist for THE NFL ON CBS and the 1998 Olympic Winter
Games, and served as the lead publicist for the U.S. Open Tennis Championships
(1996-97) and NASCAR (1997-2000).
Mateo
began her communications career as an intern for CBS Sports' Communications
Department in January 1992 and joined the division full-time in 1994.
Mateo attended UNC Charlotte
and was graduated from St. John's
University in 1992.
She lives in New York City.
