CBS RADIO'S KFWB NEWS 980 ENHANCES LOCAL PROGRAMMING LINEUP WITH ADDITION OF LOS ANGELES ANGELS BROADCASTS
Station To Simulcast AM 830 KLAA's Weekday Game Broadcasts
Beginning On Opening Day With Matchup Versus Oakland A's;
KFWB Takes The Lead On Commercial Ad Sales
KFWB NEWS 980, Southern California’s
news station for more than 40 years, today announced it has reached an
agreement in principle with the Los Angeles Angels to broadcast 110 of the
team’s weekday games, as well as any post-season appearances by the 2008 AL
West Champions. The multi-year
partnership calls for the station to carry AM 830
KLAA’s flagship game coverage, as well as their post-game programs
beginning on Monday, April 6 (6:05PM, PT) when the Angels take on the Oakland
A’s in their home-opener. Financial
terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
In
addition to broadcasting game coverage, CBS RADIO owned and operated KFWB along
with the company’s six other stations in the market (KNX 1070, KROQ, 94.7 The
Wave, 93.1 Jack FM, K-EARTH 101 FM and KLSX-FM) will take over in-game
commercial inventory sales for AM 830, offering local clients and nationally recognized
brands an unlimited number of opportunities to interact with the listening
audience of both stations. All seven CBS
RADIO stations will promotionally support the partnership on-air and online.
“The
ability to provide fans unprecedented coverage throughout the Greater Los
Angeles market has been a priority for us,” said Angels
President Dennis Kuhl. “This partnership with KFWB and the CBS Radio
family is an important one for our respective sponsors and advertisers, but
more importantly, for our fans throughout the Southern
California region.”
“When
the opportunity presented itself to have one of baseball’s most exciting
franchises as featured content on KFWB it was a move we could not resist,” said
Dan Weiner, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, CBS RADIO Los Angeles. “KFWB has been built on its commitment to
delivering the best in live local programming, including news, traffic, weather
and sports, and the addition of a standout Los Angeles organization to our lineup
accurately reflects our mission. At the
same time, we’re also in the unique position of being able to continue to
provide coverage for those listeners seeking information on local issues, and
all the news from the day’s headlines on our other news station in the market,
KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO, during game broadcasts.
“We’re
equally excited to be able to facilitate the team’s on-air ad sales. Baseball is appointment radio programming and
clients can reach a large number of captive listeners at peak broadcast times
including afternoon drive – one of the most listened to dayparts on the
station.”
