LESLIE "THE RADIOCHICK" GOLD NAMED AS AFTERNOON DRIVE HOST FOR INFINITY'S FREE FM STATION IN NEW YORK
Radio Veteran Returns To Infinity Radio On Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006
Leslie Gold, also known as "The
RadioChick," has been named as New York's FREE FM
afternoon drive host, it was announced today by Tom Chiusano,
Vice President and General Manager of 92.3 FREE FM. The
appointment is effective on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006
(3:00-7:00PM).
Gold returns to Infinity following a brief stint
on satellite radio. She will be joined on her weekday program by
her long-time collaborators, Butchy Brennan, the show's
producer, and sidekick comedian Chuck Nice. Additionally, the
four hour program will be streamed online.
"Leslie is one of the most daring and
innovative hosts on radio today," said Chiusano.
"And she has the distinctive ability to bond with her
listeners as if she were their best female friend. In an industry
so often dominated by male hosts, we are thrilled to welcome
someone of Leslie's caliber to the station with her unique
sense of humor and style."
Commented Gold: "I am thrilled to return to Infinity
Broadcasting for the exciting launch of their new FREE FM format
in New York. I've enjoyed every minute on and off the air
at Sirius and look forward to bringing THE RADIOCHICK SHOW back
to terrestrial radio."
Known for her
consistent ratings success, Gold rapidly took her show at New
York's WNEW-FM from 17th to 3rd among men and was the only
woman headlining a morning drive radio show in the city when she
was at WAXQ-FM. In little more than a year she delivered the
highest morning show ratings in the station's
history. After hosting successful New York radio and TV shows,
she began broadcasting on Sirius satellite radio in January of
this year.
A graduate of Syracuse University and the Harvard Graduate
School of Business, Gold began her radio career in the mid
90's. Prior to that she owned and operated Bishop
Manufacturing Company, a successful medium-sized building
products manufacturing company. After 10 years, she sold the
160-employee company and turned her attention to radio, a
longtime passion. To break into the business she worked for free
at a now defunct 1000-watt radio station in Connecticut. Fueled
by delusions of grandeur, but completely ignorant about the radio
business, she landed a paying job at WRKO-AM in Boston, and
emerged as one of the most popular evening shows in the
station's history as a talk station.
Gold has won numerous awards and accolades for
her contributions to radio including AIR award - Best Talk
Show Host (Boston) 1997, 1998; AIR award - Best Midday Show
nominee (New York) 1999 and Talkers Magazine - Top 100 Most
Important Radio Hosts, 2000.
