Greg Strassell serves as Senior Vice President, Programming for CBS RADIO, a position he has held since 2004. In this role, Strassell directly reports to President and Chief Executive Officer, Dan Mason, and coordinates CBS RADIO product initiatives with format Vice President’s and individual market programmers.
Prior to this, he served as Operations Manager/Program Director for CBS RADIO Boston’s WBMX, WODS and WZLX. Strassell joined CBS RADIO from American Radio Systems, where he also held an executive role as Vice President, Product Development & Programming, overseeing programming, and product launches. American Radio Systems began as a four station group when Strassell joined the Boston company, and soon developed into a 96 station publicly-traded group, before selling to Infinity (now CBS RADIO).
Strassell and his programming team have overseen many successful music format changes for CBS RADIO. In the past few years, he has worked to grow the CBS RADIO Top 40 platform to include station launches in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Boston, San Diego and Phoenix, among others, which have gained a foothold among younger audiences and women.
Strassell has received numerous honors from industry publications including Radio Ink, Billboard, FMQB and Radio & Records Magazine for his programming work at CBS RADIO over the years. WBMX received many awards during his tenure as program director for the Hot AC Radio station of the year, and in 2012, at the Worldwide Radio Summit in Los Angeles, he was honored with the award for Corporate Senior Programmer of the Year.
Strassell was on the Arbitron Advisory Council as the programming representative for the industry from 2006-2009.
Prior to Boston, Strassell programmed Emmis Top 40/Rhythmic WLOL Minneapolis, and served as Operations Manager of WROK/WZOK Rockford, IL, which posted a strong 23 share in his final year.
He began his career at 15 years old working at his hometown radio station WTCJ, Tell City, Indiana, and worked on air and then off air in programming in various Midwest markets.
Strassell and his family reside in the Boston, MA area.
